Aichi Prefectural University (APU) is a comprehensive public institution with 3,500 students, located in the suburban area east of central Nagoya.  With its easy acces to academic, cultural, and industrial resources in both rural and urban areas, the University provides an ideal learning environment for students, offering a broad range of study fields in the humanities, social sciences, and Japanese language and culture.

APU offers international exchange students the opportunity to have a distinctly Japanese experience: the university offers a variety of clubs and organizations, cultural activities, and provides exchange students with resources to acclimate to Japanese life.

Just an hour from campus is Nagoya, Japan's fourth largest city and the largest city in the Chubu region. The city of Nagoya faces the Pacific Ocean and is one of the country's most important port cities. Nagoya is a cultural hub of the region, with gardens, cultural sites, museums, and theatres. Every summer Aichi holds the World Cosplay Summit in late July, a celebration of the now-worldwide phenomenon of Japanese manga and anime.

Program Dates:

  • Fall Semester/Second Semester: April 1 - September 30
  • Spring Semester/First Semester: October 1 - late January

Accommodation:
Students have the choice to live in off campus guesthouses, apartments, or dormitories. Students select their preferred housing choice as part of the APU application; they do not apply directly to the housing provider.

  • International Student Center (ISC): Located in Nagoya (about 70 min. by train to APU) near Minato Kuyakusho Station on the Meiko line, the ISC provides accommodation for international students studying in the Nagoya region. Local Japanese students volunteer at the ISC to teach Japanese language, provide logistical support, and organize activities.
  • Aichi Urban Permaculture (AUP):  Located 25 minutes by train from APU, this guesthouse is for Japanese and international exchange students. Students have a single room and have access to a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, and laundry facilities.
  • Global Village Aichi: Located 60 minutes by train from APU, Global Village Aichi allows international exchange students to live with Japanese students. Students will live in single or double rooms and will share a kitchen and bathroom.
  • Private Apartments: Students may also choose to rent off-campus apartments.
Students can explore all housing options online.

APU has on-campus dining facilities that offer inexpensive, à la carte meals for when students are on campus. A variety of dietary needs can be accommodated. The cost of lunch is less than $5/day.

Arrival Information:
Students will fly into Nagoya (NGO) and can arrange airport pickup services with their housing provider. APU will host an international student orientation for exchange students.
